Getting To Know, Love, and Support  CFTC

Mission

Critters For The Cure (CFTC) strives to improve the quality of life for women battling breast and gynecological cancer, by embracing each woman and her unique set of needs as we partner to determine all possible solutions. By empowering women to survive and thrive, CFTC helps to bridge life before cancer to life beyond cancer.  In doing this, we also support the healing relationship between persons with cancer and their pets when one is faced with the life altering disease, cancer.

A Holistic Approach

CFTC also deals with the unspoken side of cancer - that which goes beyond screening, diagnosis, and medical treatment and the toll that treatment is likely to take on them physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • What are the financial implications for the single mom forced to leave her job to undergo treatment?
  • Who will take care of the family pet when a woman is too ill to care for them?
  • What is the real toll on the family?
  • Where does the woman who has no family or friends go during the last stage of her life?

A Day In The Life

Critters For The Cure provides help to women, meeting each one where she is, to eliminate, or minimize obstacles to optimal care and quality of life.  This can include providing assistance for transportation to treatment, medical and RX co-payments, complementary therapies, wigs and prosthetics, rent, groceries, utilities, and even dog walkers. We support the woman through all phases of her experience that impact quality of life issues as she undergoes treatment or faces the end stages of life.

CFTC believes that survivorship begins on the day of diagnosis. Once treatment is complete, the return to "normal" can be a daunting experience. CFTC support goes beyond that acute phase, helping women connect to their optimal future -- by assisting with updating resumes, coaching on how to seek job opportunities and preparing for that all important job interview.

Over half of every dollar goes directly to women who are uninsured or underinsured with financial gaps impacting their ability to complete treatment. Remaining dollars are utilized to support outreach activities and fundraising initiatives to enable the important work of CFTC to continue and grow.

CFTC is able to provide this financial "safety net" through its fund raising initiatives such as our "Until We Lick Women's Cancer" Calendar, 5K Walk / Fun-Runs, Women's Doubles Tennis Tournaments, and our Annual Critters (and Couture!) for the Cure Fashion Show Gala with Bloomingdales.

In addition to the direct financial support, and fundraising, over 1000 hours are spent each year working with cancer navigators and their patients to help patients during and after treatment.
